Sold the S&S and Red

My son in Oregon has been bugging me for a few years now to buy the whole setup..........so I sold it to him, lock, stock, and barrel.

We will be moving into an RV park in between our Moms houses since we seem to be going there more and more now. At 100 miles one way.....the gas is getting expensive, so we need to move closer to them. We've found a nice park pretty close to the middle of them and will be living in our Alpenlite 5th wheel there.....well.....to there end. We wont be moving till next May due to the lease that we are in. So I have a little time to get the 5er in "full-time" shape and redesigned the way we want it.

I just picked up an 88 F250 Super-Cab diesel for dirt cheap. She needs a little love, but her bones are good and the drivetrain is solid. We do plan on finding another TC for the 250 in the near future. Not sure of what we'll get but it needs to be 1,000 lighter.........lol, maybe a 9' or a pop-up..........who knows.

  • That should be an interesting engine/tranny combo in the new F250. Don't see many diesels with the C6. What axle gearing does it have?

I thought the 6.9 IDI diesel was still being used in '88? Did someone swap in a 7.3?
  • Old Red and the S&S sure is a sweet combo. Hope it gets many more years of camping with them. You wanted something bigger (chassis wise) right? Is there an old F700 out there in your future? I bet there is something in that yard in Columbia Falls for you! ;)
  • Although the S&S is sold......its spending the winter with us and will be delivered in the spring.

We have had 3 days of rain here in the desert (very odd) and the camper is sinking......ROFLMAO!!! I had my AF 1140 do the same thing after a 4 day storm.....even with 12"x 12"x 3/4" pads under the jacks.

I guess I will have a bit of work to do tomorrow.....lol.

  • Thanks for the kind words. My son's family will put it to good use for sure. Don't know if he will be active on the forum though. We are going to deliver it next spring, since there weather is already turning at his place......maybe we will take both rigs up and do a family camp before we return.
  • Mountiankowboy,
I would like to thank you for your expertise and for the generous amount of time you spent sharing that expertise with everyone. There must have been times you were exhausted yet followed through with your commitment to share the process in order to help others. I followed your s&s rebuild very closely as i was lucky enough to find a S&S TC that needed some "WORK" durring the time you were rebuilding yours. My camper came out better than I ever imagined and I give your posts much of the credit. I wish you all the best and good luck with your new projects and adventures.

  • Good luck to you , i hope things work out to be a smooth transition .
Should we be looking for tc posts from mountainkowboyjr. ??
    :)
  • Your son got his deal. The S & S is a sound built TC. Hoping to find a S & S my self one day. Best of luck with your move in the spring.
