I used to haul lumber with my converted logging truck..Lumber on semi flatbeds are held on with ratchet straps..Logging loads of logs are held together with cable chain wraps that only have to meet a 15,000 pounds requirement, if memory serves me.
So a pickup camper can safely be held to the pickup bed with straps without worry, if you have the proper straps.
