Someone please explain

I was at 3 ford dealers yesterday looking at the new superdutys, and I asked the salesman what the difference is between the 250 and 350 and everyone said just the springs and that any new 250 will is rated to pull a toy hauler and ford site says they are rated for 16500 lbs. I would much rather have a 250 is this true.

    Ford Markets a 10000 GVWR F350 SRW and the same identical F350 SRW in a 11200 GVWR both with the same 17" tire and wheel package in say a crew cab 4x4 6.7 diesel 172.4" wheelbase truck. The biggest difference is the SRW has a 6290 RAWR vs a 6200 RAWR on the F250.
    And looking at Fords fleet specs shows the 10k GVWR F250 has a bit more payload than the same configured 10k GVWR F350 SRW truck.

    Now the OP can get a 11500 GVWR F350 SRW with a 7000 RAWR and a 37xx lb payload in the same 172.4" wheelbase crew cab 4x4 6.7 diesel truck. However a 16500 lb RV trailer can have too much pin weight (3200-3500 lbs) even for this truck.

    If the OP chooses a F250 he will have to upgrade the trucks rear spring pack big time and go with the higher rated 18" or 20" tires and wheels for a 16500 lb trailer that may have a 3300-3500 lb pin weight.

    Well let me be the first. I have multiple trucks and would much rather overload my SRW F350 than use a large truck for trailers in the 20-30,000 lb range. A dually one ton would be the perfect truck in my mind for trailers in the 18-30,000 lb range in my opinion.


    There's always got to be one in the pack.

    To the OP. Unfortunately you will not find the answer to this much debated question here. Search and compare part #'s or even ask your local Ford parts manager to compare part #'s of the rear axle, spring pack, wheels etc between the 2 trucks and you will find your answer.

    The difference between the GVWR and the payload rating of a 350 vs a 250 is more than 1,000 lbs.

    Look on the sticker on the door jamb. Look for the GVWR and the rear axle GAWR. The F350 will have higher numbers. If you need an F350, get one. You will not see any difference in the ride.

    You can also tell when a sales person is lying....there lips will move every time. Most RV and truck sales people have never towed more than a small bass boat.

Now the OP can get a 11500 GVWR F350 SRW with a 7000 RAWR and a 37xx lb payload in the same 172.4\" wheelbase crew cab 4x4 6.7 diesel truck. However a 16500 lb RV trailer can have too much pin weight (3200-3500 lbs) even for this truck.

Well let me be the first. I have multiple trucks and would much rather overload my SRW F350 than use a large truck for trailers in the 20-30,000 lb range. A dually one ton would be the perfect truck in my mind for trailers in the 18-30,000 lb range in my opinion.
