Something for now TV

Never had a 4.6 in a pickup, but had a Mustang GT and a Mark 8 with that engine. We had a whole fleet of Crown Vics with the 4.6 in them. Good dependable engine, adequate power to pull the CV around. Didn't have any problems with the trannys either. They develop power well up in the RPM's, so going up a hill you are going to have to make that engine sing a bit.

My brother towed many many miles with a 4.6L 2005 F-150. I rode many many miles while towing with him (21ft Four Winns boat, not very heavy). It was an absolute dog. 35-40mph was it's max up any steep grade. The biggest problem is the 4 speed tranny. The truck never shifts into 1st, and 4th you lock out while towing. You end up basically with a 2 speed transmission.

It will probably be an upgrade over the liberty for brakes, sway reduction, and overall towing ability, but don't expectthe power dodifference to be as noticeable as it seems.

Already have the Equal-i-zer and brake controller from the Jeep just have to set it up for the truck and yes was planning on servicing the tranny on it.Thanks for the tip on the light foot

Our F150 is an '03, with 5.4 and factory tow. Even though the one you're looking at is a bit less beefy, with good routine maintenance and sensible driving, you should be fine. Suggest you have the transmission drained and refilled - NOT FLUSHED - before you get started. Then you know that's good. Get a good WDH with sway, the brake controller and use a light foot when towing. Most say they tow best and most efficiently between about 55 and 63 or so....once your foot gets heavy, that 10 mpg is history. 4.6 generally underpower for towing but WTF if you;re used to a liberty it'll seem like a race car.

Yeah possibly could be.It's a 1 owner vehicle and it's only job with me will be towing acouple of times a month we will use the other 2 vehicles for everything else
