In CA, those campgrounds have gone to using outside vendors for management. After Labor Day, many of them lock the gate for the season. It is very irritating.
The same happens here in Oregon as well.
If the kids are in school and we are outside of hunting or fishing season these campgrounds are WONDERFUL - that is as long as the gate is not locked so we can access them!
Most campgrounds here are closed mid September to mid May.
