This was our first year with our completely renovated Amerigo TC. We only traveled within the PA/WV/Ohio area and very rarely did we see another TC. We did, however, get a LOT of stares when we pulled into campgrounds. Most people wanted to know what kind of truck camper we had and where to buy one. Well that is a little difficult since ours is a 76 and are no longer made. You should see the stares we got. Really a 1976? Not sure what they saw? I think it looks pretty vintage with the old aluminum siding.
Regardless, as a past pop-up and travel trailer camper... I think the biggest wall to beginner TC camping is the cost of the truck PLUS the camper. I know I didn't have 60 grand for a brand new truck, on top of the cost of a TC. The only reason we got a TC was because we came across a 99 Ford dually for our business at a really good price. My father in law bought it (new) and primarily used it for his TC. We figured it was time to downsize from a 30 foot TT and thought what better unit than a TC. Vintage only came in play once we heard to be careful with newer "used" units with water damage. What the heck, we bought a really old TC with FULL water damage and just re-built it completely from the outside...in. No more water damage (for now) and a really neat camper.
