We have owned RVs of several different flavors. The TC is by far our favorite. I consider them the “dirty little secret” of the RV world. If people understood just how convenient, easy, and versatile they really are I think more Folks would chose TC’s.
I also think there are a couple of factors that confuse People, they look at us and think “wow…those are small-I don’t think we could fit in one of those”. The truth is our TC has about the same useable space as our 25’ AirStream. But some Folks want to “camp” with recliners, big screen TV’s, etc….that probably aint’ gonna happen with a TC.
I think another factor is the “how the heck do you get that on the truck” factor. It is my experience that a TC takes more knowledge, hardware, and initial set up than other types of RV’s…but once you get there, they are of course very easy to use.
With a TT or 5’er you just buy it, install a hitch and off you go. With a MoHo you just jump in and drive.
The TC takes tie downs, in all likelihood some suspension mods, maybe tires/wheels…it takes some research to figure all this out…not so with other RV’s.
Like many of us, I was curious about TC’s for many years while we “struggled” with other kinds of RV’s (some were a real PIA) then I came here, asked a lot of questions, and finally took the plunge. I figured if so many other’s could figure this out…so could I. It did not take long to figure out we were really going to enjoy the TC vs other RV’s. We never imagined how easy it would be to travel with, and how many different ways we would use the TC.
We use our’s way more than other RV’s we have owned. Heck…you always have a bathroom, kitchen, and warm dry place to hang out! It’s great.
The last time we were at Yellowstone I couldn’t help looking at Folks with huge 5’ers, TT’s, Moho’s that were prevented from many of the roads, could not find parking spaces, etc. We tooled around in our TC with all of our amenities with us, parked where we wanted, drove down roads that said “No Rv’s allowed”, it was awesome!
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that many TC’ers are experienced RV’ers and have finally figured out that a low hassle TC is the way to go!
Freaks? That’s OK…we are freaks with big smiles on our faces!
