I think in general, public campgrounds must have a justifiable reason for not allowing specific RVs. Because they are there for the public. Unjustifiably denying access to specific RVs could create a very negative public backlash.

Fishing Bridge doesn't allow soft-sided RVs due to bear activity.

A limit of 24ft max is enforced because access or sites cannot accommodate anything larger.

And so on.

Private parks, in contrast, can choose not to allow a specific rig for most any reason (barring illegal discrimination against the RV occupants).

So, if a private park had a TC guest, and that guest had a messy site, the private park could choose to exclude TCs. It doesn't matter how accurate/real their connection of "TC = messy site" is, as long as it is the RV they are denying and not the occupant.

Heck, a private park could refuse any rig that isn't a 1975 American Clipper with Dodge chassis and 360 engine. They may not make much money, but it's not discrimination against a protected group.

When Westernrvparkowner wrote their response, I don't think it was all based on 'fact' as much as, yo'all should see things from other perspectives. The first being, business and the right of refusal. I'm the first to chime in and say it doesn't make a lick of sense. But that's beside the point.

The comments about spending your money elsewhere. Good for you, I do that same thing on some very silly principles. But don't kid yourself for a second that the TC group has enough weight to make a dent.

I turn down work all the time. Some of my most profitable decisions have stemmed from saying 'No'. Sometimes it's easier to draw a line and just stick with it. This isn't about raising kids where circumstances and etc etc might change a hard held belief. It's about parking a truck. There are good reasons to just say no in business and stick to it...even if seemingly based on BS. Westernrvparkowner was pointing out possible beliefs/situations where someone might make the decision. Doesn't mean it's a great idea for you...but it's not yours or my park.

National Parks don't allow large campers simply because they don't fit. Many do have spaces for larger vehicles but due to geography and natural preservation not all can be accommodated at every park. This is (or should be) understood when you buy a 45' Prevost. It won't fit everywhere. When I buy a truck camper I understand it also won't fit everywhere. It will fit in an RV park though...

That's an entirely different thing than a private park that discriminates based on camper type. Their shriveling up and dying is on them when they turn away paying customers. I simply don't care if they do.

Actually there are many that are restricted not due to access. You can't take a soft sided RV to Fishing Bridge Campground in Yellowstone, but it sure as heck will fit. Jenny lake Campground in Grand Teton only allows tents, yet it is easily accessed by any vehicle. I find it interesting that one minute RV park owners are accused of being greedy and only interested in taking every last dime from a customer and in the next breath they are criticized for having policies that actively turn away customers who are more than willing to pay their fees. Maybe those greedy owners know that there is more to running a successful business than trying to please everyone.

With my triple slide Host, there is very little temporary storage since the slides have to go somewhere during travel. However, I have plenty of permanent storage and do not need to unload this at a campsite.

Ft. Stevens (NW Oregon) State Park was full, and as it was a spur-of-the-moment trip, we stayed at the Hammond KOA right outside the State Park gate.

1) More expensive than the state park.
2) Gravel site vs. paved at state park.
3) No trees, no shade, no hint privacy.
4) No picnic table.
5) Did have power & water hookups.
6) No dump station... "Just use the dump station at the State Park"

Never been back to a KOA since.

KOA's are independently owned and operated, there is a large variation. However I'm surprised for sure that there was no dump station! For us, we'll hit up a koa when we want a night to plug and dump, and do laundry. They are generally clean and easy, if not exactly scenic.

I have a marked preference for anything but a private, motorhome oriented lot anyway. Many of them, perhaps most of them, look like an RV sales lot: diagonal parking slots a few feet apart in long rows. Those who like them are welcome to them.

Lol at this thread, especially some of the responses like “we don’t allow customers to unload their TC because TC jacks are questionable and it gets windy here.”
I realize that, at some level, you need to make rules that incorporate the potential actions of the least common denominator IQ of those involved, but statements like that just show your ignorance or are a convienent excuse for the real reason you make that call.

Exactly..They have there eyes on the high rollers and what they think, rather than just being an RV park that excepts all modern/nice looking RV's..

I can see there points on old uncared for RV's that can junk up a park and tend to be squatters, rather than mobile, as RV's are meant to be..

Montana is nothing like it used to be with there way's and politics..I frequent a couple hunting forums and the born and bred Montanan's are frequently complaining of the takeover of the special people from other states...Missoula leads the pack according to them..

In Idaho I can and have stayed at an RV park with older rigs including an 80's Class C and my old 1976 Ford with an older 1990 TC on it..Nothing at all was said other than there rules for truck campers is they stay on the truck,which is fine with me...

RVing is turning into who has the newest most expensive RV and the older well kept ones are looked down on by some...I think the term snob's has been used for some class A owners but I think that term is not limited to just class A owners...There are snob's in every category of RV's as far as I can tell just from the way they post on the internet and act out in the real world...

Your park,your rules but don't expect good reviews when you turn away RV's based on type..If I had a fancy class A and read this post,I would not go to that RV park based on there discrimination and attitude towards truck campers which can be more expensive than a class A.
