That metal tube is a heat shield and will be "loose". I believe that heat shield just slips over the end of the plug connector....give the thing a good pull while twisting and the wire will come off the plug with the heat shield as one unit. See the picture at the bottom of this page AA Auto has some good videos on YouTube...glad they take the take the time to make those and put them on YouTube.
