Most speakers are mounted under the awning, and with the awning out any light shining up will be reflected by the white underside of the awning giving you better overall area lighting.
The speaker wires are going to be 16 or 18 gauge, but if you are running LEDs they won't draw much current anyway. To be safe, add a 5a fuse on the hot leg before the switch. You won't be able to use the existing wires to pull new ones, they are bundled/taped/stapled at various points inside the walls and ceiling.
