Speakers to Lights

I will never use my outdoor speakers on the side of my trailer and was thinking about replacing them with lights which I do need. I would want LED of course to keep battery draw low. I wanted to eventually install an LED strip under the awning against the side of the camper but I think I want to try this first. The holes are there and in a good location for lights.

Has anyone done this or have an opinion on this mod?

  • I found this style also which would solve the problem of all the light going straight out. The cover would force it down.
  • CLICKY

That should be easy to install and would cover the hole and look good too! Just need to figure out where to mount the switch, somewhere by the stereo would be easy. Just tap into the 12v feed for the stereo and it's done.
  • Something like this for example... Outdoor RV Lights
Same black trim as the speakers and 8" round like the speakers. I'm concerned about them putting out all this light straight ahead into the next campsite like a pair of headlights so I will need to figure that one out. It might not be a problem since the LED strips face straight out also and more than likely the awning will be out when I am using them.
  • Whatever floats your boat....speaker wires certainly OK for low voltage 12v draw like LEDs. Disconnect those speaker wires at the stereo, connect to a 12v source and mount a switch by the stereo and you should be all set.

Depending on the type of speaker and how it is mounted you may have to make some custom mounting plate to cover the hole and seal the exterior wall.
