We saw the moose when we hiked the Red Rock Lake hike from the Swiftcurrent Trail. If you drive toward the Many Glacier Lodge and continue to the end of the road, you are at the trailhead. It's a simple 1.8 miles one way, but you pass two lakes frequented by moose and see two waterfalls. Ten years in Montana, and these are the first wild moose we have seen.
The grizzly was in a field near Many Glacier laying around all day near the road, causing a bear jam.
The black bear was a scary sight. We had just finished listening to the park astronomer at the St. Mary Visitor Center and drove up the road to try our hand at astro-photography. In the pitch black darkness while taking 30 second photos, I heard a click-click-click nearby. I shined my flashlight toward the road and saw a big black bear walking 30 feet away down the road! My DW and I jumped in the truck as fast as we could!
Here is an iPhone shot of the cow moose with her calf. My wife took this from 100 feet away.
