Stabalizer/Leveling Jacks

My Passport is just 3400 just so you know.
Someone told me you don't use the jacks to level, Just to stabilize.
So I looked on Amazon and they have stabilizing jacks and leveling jacks....
So what is the deal, Can I use my jacks to level..?..Our do I need to buy the Hvy Duty leveling jacks..?
  • Level under the tires for side to side, using wood, "Legos", or Andersen levelers. Front to back leveling is done with the tongue jack. I have the HD scissor jacks, and put just enough pressure on them so that you see the camper move up, maybe a 1/4". Big thing, make sure you are not twisting your frame. That is the main reason why you don't use jacks for leveling. Made that mistake when I first started out and had a rental unit, and we couldn't get the door to open and close.
  • Do not level with your jacks. You risk tweaking the frame. Use ChooChooMan74's method above to level.

Then snug down your jacks to "stabilize" your trailer.
  • ^^^^ what downtheroad said. You can get jacks that are more than strong enough, but the real problem is the frame. To make trailers like ours light enough to tow with as many vehicles as possible, the frames are designed to be light weight and they cannot withstand that type of force.
  • Ok..
    Thanks for the replies.
Your answers make sense to me....
I'm always learning every trip I make.

    NO!
only some 5th wheels and motorhomes have leveling systems that are expensive.
yours are only for stabilizing, ESPECIALLY since your trailer has an ultralight chassis.
