Hi Jebby14:
Could you elaborate on why I am going way out of your comfort zone? Below you mentioned this. I am not trying to debate this. Have no experience so I'm trying to learn, and do things the right way the first time. I have a V8 4Runner with a weight-distributing heavy-duty hitch rated to either carry 700+ lbs or handle 1,100 lbs of tongue weight. The reason I though a WD hitch would be good is to not sag the rear end of the 4Runner as much. I do not have rear suspension airbags, so figured that a WD setup would give me better handling. Anyway, please elaborate on what you meant or what I may be doing incorrectly.
Hopefully
Jebby will respond directly to your query but regardless of what he says I'd suggest that your 4 Runner's wheelbase of just 109.8" is awfully short for towing much of any trailer other than perhaps a popup. Using weight distribution, particularly one like an Equal-i-zer which includes sway control as a function of it's design, is therefore not an option for you but a
requirement. WD and air bags are completely different animals, the purpose of the former being to restore some weight back to the TV's front steer axle once the trailer is hitched to the vehicle, something air bags don't do at all. Air bags don't serve
any purpose for towing other than make the combination look "pretty", as in level front-to-back, but do absolutely nothing to restore weight to the front steer axle.
