When I bought my first TT about 30 years ago, I bought the WD and sway control hitch. I quickly discovered that the sway control was not needed and haven't used one since.
In an perfect world none of us would have to use sway control as a well balanced trailer / tow vehicle combination shouldn't sway at all. Problem is, we don't live in a perfect world and our towing combinations are often anything BUT ideal. With each trailer and tow vehicle we've ever owned I spent considerably time trying to optimize the combination for towing, some more successful than others. With our previous KZ Spree I used an Equal-i-zer to glue the two together because weight distribution and effective sway control was a necessity, with our current 19' trailer that measures a mere 22' 6" coupler to bumper I use just weight distribution, no sway control, as it's proven unnecessary towing with my Avalanche. :)
