stairs help

We have scissors stairs but our truck is too high up for them. I was thinking step stool but didn't take into account the handle thing at the back.

Last time out we used a couple of cinder blocks but still had a big step up and I didn't feel comfortable with it.

What options are out there with out spending a lot of money? And that folds up and isn't too heavy?

I recommend you take a look at the little giant (jumbo) 3or 4 step ladder. I replaced my steps with one of them several years ago. They fold easy and I hang them on a rack on my ladder. They are very stable. If you PM me I'll send you a picture. If you search the net the prices vary.

I messaged you. I looked on amazon. If what you have is the two step, I don't think it will be tall enough.

Ditto what bphusmc said. They're very sturdy and slip-proof plus are versitile enough to be used next to trailer tongues and even around home. The paint tray/handrail part folds down or can be removed by drilling a couple rivets.

We use a 3-step Little Jumbo. My brother uses a 4 step for his bumperless 8' camper.

How high is your camper floor? What kind of scissor steps did you have?
I have found that my TorkLift Glow Steps work great, but I had to add a custom made handrail to make them feel "safe" for everyone.

I'm not sure the height but it comes up to my hips. I'm 5'3". The steps we have is a 3 step. Needs to be like 5 or 6, I think

I used to have a 4 step scissor stair but the truck was too high and the steps were slanted and dangerous especially if there was snow/water on them. Went with a 5 step Torklift Glow Step and everything is good. You might want to add a hand rail like 69Avion has done.

I am only 64 and still quite frisky so haven't felt the need for a railing yet.

  • Traci,
We use an adjustable aerobic step. It's lightweight and stores conveniently at the door when the slide is in. We just pull it out and adjust it to the needed height. It has a rubber top so it's nonslip and the dogs can get in and out more safely. Just make sure you have it clicked in place.

I feel good that it's getting used for something. Climbing in and out is sort of aerobic...right?

Look around at garage sales, or used gym equipment places to make it a better value.
  • We had to get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002PWJRWS/ref=oh_details_o05_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They come in different heights. We'd been using a Rubbermaid stool but the dog had issues, probably because he refused to use the handle on the camper. This thing is really stable. Kinda pricey, though.

Edit to add, we use this with the camper's fold down step/bumper which is pretty sturdy, just too high. Not sure if you want to replace the scissor step or just add on to it!
