We are new the "slide" world so please bear that in mind when answering the n00b question. I have seen that some people with slides will put supports or jacks under their slides and others do not. Obviously this is probably a lot of opinion but what are the pros/cons of doing this?

One con I've read is the risk of damage. If the trailer shifts or sinks at all and the jacks under the slide don't you may damage the slide.

I don't use them. Unless the manufacturers documentation says that they are needed, or ok I'd stay away.

I fabricated a pair a number of years ago, but only use them if we are having more than 4 people in the trailer. Have not had any problems. If one is parked on a soft surface I won't use them.
