Steaming hot water out of HWH?

I recently bought a 1997 KZ Sportsman tc from a private party.
I filled the water tank to check to see if the water heater will
work. It works but, it heats the water till its scalding hot.
I shut it off, worked the temp. setting back and forth, and tried
it the next day. I set the temp. to the low setting and fired it up again. It ran 25 min. straight and was steaming hot again. I shut
it down again. This isn't a normal temperature for the hot water
is it? I don't think the camper has been used a lot, its whole life.
Would this be a hot water system problem from it not being used for a long time, or very often?

I also had a KZ with the same issue. Bad Thermocoupler.

  • Nope, not normal. On the low setting my water heater will produce PERFECT hot water for a shower, no cold mixing needed.

Probably the thermoSTAT. They're not difficult to change.

    *sorry about that...
  • I bought a new adjustable thermocouple for my water heater a few years back, cost less than $15. I would not let that be a deal breaker.

  • If you think it is getting dangerously hot, maybe a bad thermocouple that isn't shutting the burner off when it gets to temperature?
