Stopping to gas up

Truck stops for us, as well. If no truck stops available, then take my time and survey the situation. If not comfortable, move on. As others have said, I start scouting once I hit half a tank and almost never let it get below a quarter of a tank.

I always look for a gas station that you can pull around the back to exit. That way I park on the end which gives me a straight shot out to exit around the back. 1/2 tank start looking and have gotten on and off the freeway a few times because I did not like the way things looked. I'm doing Google sat next time.

I usually look for grocery store stations. They seem to have better access. I especially like Costco because their pumps are usually aligned so I can fill the truck with the front pump and the toy hauler with the back one at the same time. That said, there have been a couple of stations that were absolute pains (Costco in Tumwater and Safeway in Woodland WA), but in general they're good.

I absolutely agree with using Google streetview. That's saved me a few times.

What I try to avoid is older stations in small towns. Usually stations near major roads are acceptable. In an absolute pinch, I can fill from the toy hauler, but I would have to unhook and move behind it because the hose is so short.

I have a chev crew cab and a 35 ft. so much easier to just go into truck stops

We travel secondary/back roads

If I can get into the CG sites we have encountered during our travels then service stations are a breeze

I don't plan, worry or try to over think fueling.

I pull in fuel up and get out....if that takes backing up OH Well....BEEP, BEEP, BEEP

Our worst stop was when we had a Class A, and we were towing a car on a dolly behind it. We pulled behind a car that was filling up, not expecting it to take to long. The people in the car, after filling up, went inside the station, and stayed for 20 minutes.

I was so mad, You can not back up a Class A with a dolly behind it. I didn't know what to do. I blew on the horn. I can't believe people are that rude.

I belong to the group that picks a station with easy access and exit from the gas pumps. That said I did mis-judge the entrance ramp angle between the street and the station. I bent the skid plates badly but it did save the stabilizer jacks. Another repair when we get home.

That's the best way. Survey the surroundings is the best recommendation, but plan ahead too and get fuel before you absolutely need it, so you can be choosy about where you stop.

I have never had a problem getting in and out of a station, because I plan ahead, and move along if I don't like the access of a given station. Once you put yourself in that mind-set, it's second nature.

I also use the Gas Buddy app for my Android phone.

Don't stop for fuel when you are getting really low.... plan in advance and go someplace sooner, which has better access - use the Gas Buddy app to look for truck stops, etc.

Also, if I have a base camp, and do day trips in and out while at a given destination, I fuel up the truck before I hitch up / pack up and leave camp.

Try looking for gas stations at smaller towns. Look on the outskirts where you will more likely find stations with plenty of pull in pull out room.
