Storing camper on truck and storage lot security

Do you worry about storing your camper on the truck in a storage lot? What security steps would be ideal?

  • I read a statistic from insurance companies many years ago when we started RVing that stated that about 85% of all RV thefts occur on storage lots.
  • Thanks, bummer that thieves are out and stealing anything they can. Can any one think of a way to disable the truck so it could not be stolen with out some difficultly and time?
  • ADEQUATE insurance will cover some of your loss. JD’s suggestion is good.
  • darned if you do, darned if you don't. you are taking a chance where ever you park it. I had a friend who had his motor home broken into and it was parked at his house and was within a few feet of the house. a motion camera would be a good thing to have. I just installed blink cameras at my house and I can see if anyone comes to my door or to my TT. qvc had them for $249 for 4 cameras. if you put it into storage take everything out, tv's, batteries. anything a thief can pawn take out
  • You can put motion detection cameras on the TC outside and inside and same with the truck. It will send you a text or email with live footage.

Being in a storage place it could go off with someone parking their RV next to yours or someone just walking by but it will notify you anytime.

I don't know everything about them but have seen some full time RV people put them on their RV while they are away from it or checking on their pet that is left in the RV while they are gone.

Will need solar and a good battery to keep them in operation.

If someone destroys your camera you still have the live footage that was sent to you
  • Any suggestions for truck security, alarms, wheel locks, ignition disable, ...
  • I guess if you, "have no alternative," then that's what you have to do.
Pick a secure as possible facility...fenced, gated, locked and lighted. The more secure they are, the more they cost. Best of all is indoor storage.

and....of course, good insurance on your truck and camper.
  • I wouldn’t do it, that’s why I put a RV shelter on my property.
