Securing batteries in RV storage

if you leave the batteries in storage for a long time they'll go dead. You should be taking them home and keep them on a trickle charger. Then someone would have to break into your garage to steal them.

that is what I used. they are good people to deal with
and the better yours is locked up, the quicker the thief will look for lower hanging fruit.

If it's like most rv lots, they have many batteries to choose from. If you think it's likely that your batteries will be stolen at the lot, I'd look for a different lot.

That being said, I kept various RVs in lots for around 20 years. I've had something stolen one time. My Class A at the time was broken into and flatware and snack cakes were stolen along with two old tvs and cd player. The batteries were untouched.

The Travel Trailer and Truck Camper were never touched as far as I know.

If thieves want it, they'll get it. The more you do to secure it rarely deters them, it just means more damage caused to get it. Only real security is "out of sight, out of mind". They won't steal what they don't see. Mount it in a position so it's easy to remove and take it with you.

my battery is in a standard plastic box with a heavy two (?) piece strap of metal that locks around the box and trailer frame. Probably more difficult/inconvenient to grind that away than to just pop into any aluminum box?

I think you would want a WIRELESS ALARM to go off and notify a specific person... Setting off an local alarm in one of those places probably doesn't get much attention... There is probably no one there to respond to such of an alarm...

What about some sort of switch under the battery that closes when the battery is lifted up and sets off a loud siren or horn?

Or install the battery somewhere inside (vented of course). Could even leave the old battery box in the A-frame complete with the old +/- cables inside to fool a thief. I moved our battery inside where there was a perfect spot available for it not usable for much else.

Otherwise, there are lots of lockable boxes that'd work. Some use tool boxes for the bed of a truck. There are "trailer tongue boxes" that will also work and have angled sides to match the A-frame angle and come in steel, aluminum or plastic and in various dimensions. Might want to make sure a box can't also be taken along with a battery as they are not cheap. IIRC, Tractor Supply has a selection of boxes that could work and you wouldn't need to order one online somewhere (shipping is costly due to size). Lowes has some too I think. A battery disconnect switch would be a good idea (or just disconnect at the battery) or solar.

I bought one of the aluminum tongue boxes the same as in the photo and was also going to cut out the angle channels supporting the battery so I could lower the box. But we got a new TT and the front cap bulged out more and the box wouldn't fit and had to sell it.

Torklift Battery Boxes, some with solar charging ... not cheap though.
