Stove top cover bent

Hi,
I am on my vacation in Yellowstone which has been fun. The only thing is I've never used the stove in my trailer before.

The cover is one that pulls up and then folds over to cover the stove. That part is ok. However, when opened up, I can only use the one front burner because it is bent so far forward.

Has anyone else had this problem? (I did a search) How best to fix this? I don't want to ruin it. but could just take it all the way off if necessary if someone tells me how. Will be able to get to a hardware store today in West Yellowstone.

Thanks very much,
Ellie

  • Off it comes today. I did try bending it back to no avail...it seems a little heavy so comes right back.
I'll look for the screws and take the darned thing off. I don't see the need for it anyhow.
Building one and using it for counter work sounds like a plan.
    Thank you all.

    Yep. Same here.

  • I'd bend it back. It's already ruined. I know that does'nt sound like good advice but they are'nt all that important. You can build a new one out of Plywood.
  • as I said, If you just close it about halfway , it should just lift off the stove… one some only the left side lifts off the you just move it to the left for the right side to come off the pin…

there might be different types but everyone I owned worked this way…

it should not be hard to see where the slot is open to allow it lift it off…

  • yes it sags forward when folded. I believe when using it my mom may have not pulled up before trying to fold it because it is hard to fold.

I am thinking of putting a hook in the back wall and tying it or something but don't have my stud finder with me. It is leaning forward at a 45 degree angle.

  • I haven't experienced this. My cover does flop a bit forward when it's open. I found that if I just hold it open extra far back for a few seconds after opening the cover then it stays open fairly well. Could you use a pot to hold it open on one burner while you cook on the other burners?

I do remember having issues with the cover if I don't pull forward on the cover before I lift it up and fold. Does your cover open vertically and fold back to the wall and then sag forward when you let go?
