Suburban SF 30 furnace suddenly very noisy

I have a 2000 Carriage Cameo with a Suburban SF 30 furnace. I don't use it often, but a while ago, coincidentally after the first frost, it suddenly became very noisy when in use. However it still operates fine. It sounds maybe like the fan or its motor is misaligned. I made a recording of it which you can listen to here

What do you think? Is it likely that my issue could be solved by replacing this motor

How easy is it to replace on my own? Any thoughts/help/advice appreciated!
  • Thanks for all the help.

Charlie, that's kind of what I was thinking. I'm just trying to see if I will be able to get enough of it apart to have access to the parts I need to inspect…
  • Good job on the post !!! I like the soundcloud part.

By the sound of it the blade is hitting on something. You need to take it apart first before buying parts. It's possible that something just got stuck in it. Or, that you may be able to see where it is hitting and clearance out the problem by bending or tweaking something. Or, maybe the mounting bracket has slipped and you need to adjust the fan motor and then tighten down the bracket.

If you don' use it often it may not be wore out and need replacing. Just a adjustment might be on order.

My 22 year old furnace works just fine and I use it fairly often. But, not a lot.
  • Great videos on you tube that may or may not help

  • Thanks, will do. I was planning on at least seeing if I could get it out first and look at it. Which would be a whole project in itself.
  • Make sure you can get the old one apart before you invest in parts.
