120VAC power comes in either via a hard wired plug in cord set. From there it goes thru the cheezy little switch, temp limit pack to the heating element. The switches fail early and often. If you changed the thermostat pack its possible you either did not plug the wires in fully and completely, or you rubbed one of the wires on the raw sheet metal edge creating a short to ground. Happened to me, and Ive been doing wiring for years. So it happens.
