I do have trouble envisioning some "issues" like porpoising with a small trailer, esp with a wdh, but my calibration range for what is a "good towing experience" is much wider than most weekend warriors, because I tow alot of different things and if it don't sway on it's own or bury the back end of the truck, I call it a win! lol

What you're thinking about can help, imo, but you'll need to have the Sumos shimmed pretty tight so they engage quickly in the suspension travel. Light duty ones, I'd surmise should be set up to be just in contact at your static loaded ride height. Then they start doing their job immediately as the suspension compresses over bumps.
Gut feel is the lighter duty ones, installed to engage like I said above.

Rarely carry any heavy loads. Occasional porpoising with the TT, less with the WDH but some. Truck is mostly a daily driver. Still trying to do more camping.
Do I think I need the assist? No.

Unless the truck has a front levelling kit installed, it'll squat some and still be level. These are just overload springs, but the benefit of Sumo springs is they are self-damping, and don't add harshness because they don't transmit high frequency vibration like a steel spring will. Airbags increase rebound, so to maintain the same ride quality, you have to also upgrade your shocks.

FWIW - I have both Sumo Spring and airbags. Airbags alone didn't always keep the overload leaf from engaging. I though about going to Deaver springs to get away from the overload leaf, but adding the sumos did work for keeping me off the overloads, while also reducing rebound when hitting big bumps with a heavy load. And they're far superior as a jounce stop compared to the stock ones. It's a soft cushion, rather than feeling it bottom out on a rubber hockey puck.

I use the black ones on the wifes '16 1500 chevy crew cab short bed with 4000 rawr.
I use them when pulling my 10k gvwr car hauler with a 7600 lb blue tractor .
I can load the tractor to around 3400-3500 lbs on the trucks rear axle. The truck had a porpoise problem even with a Husky Centerline TS and 1200 lb bars. The Sumos stopped the porpoising.
I contacted etrailer.com and told them what I had and the problem. They recommended the black Sumo (for my needs) over other aftermarket suspension products.
I've used etrailer for years for my rv and non rv trailers. Give them a 1-800 and let them know your particulars.

The Sumos just replace the standard bump stop that came on the truck. In my case, the bump stop was around 2 inches tall and the black Sumos(I said blue earlier by mistake) I put on are around 6 inches tall. When I have the fifth wheel attached the Sumos compress 1 to 1.5 inch. The truck drives so much better when pulling the camper. No more jarring from bottoming out from dips or potholes.

Love our blue Sumos. Easily put on about 4 years ago and it eliminated all sag. No maintenance whatsoever and no air to leak EVER! Super cost effective

Boomer, I recently installed a set of the blue Sumosprings, on my 2014 F150 SCREW 4x4 and we're on our first towing trip with them.
They are all I hoped they would be. Took sag out when loaded and gives a much better/stable ride with the TT. Unloaded they only kick in on bumps and railroad crossings.
Well worth the cost and no air bags to fill. Took me about 30 minutes to install. Based on my research, they ride better than the stiffer Timbrens.
