Walk on roof = marketing buzzwords.


All if not most use 8mm / 5/16" plywood.

Screwed down (such as Heartland) much better than stapled (Keystone, many Forest River brands, Grand Design, and a lot of others).

Wood rafters are better for holding stapled plywood than stamped steel rafters. (Keystone again, they staple plywood to stamped steel rafters).

The more you walk on any they loosen up from the movement. When staples pull out a little they do not go back in. When staples pull through plywood and loosen they do not tighten back up.

A lot of it depends on the manufacturers means and methods.

The closest I've seen to walk on which is not marketing hype are the 4" thick laminated roofs used by Flagstaff/Rockwood as long as you don't plant your foot right over one of the routered in AC ducts that run front to back. You can do the Macarena on one of those roofs.

Agree with the "pay attention to where you step" crowd. My trailer manual specifically mentioned that it does NOT have a walk on roof, but after 15 years I've had to walk on it quite a few times. I've also learned that "walk on" is less harmful than "stand on", where all your weight is concentrated on one spot for a long time. You can also "crawl on", which makes it easy to spread out your weight. I used to try boards or planks to spread the load, but they were more trouble than they were worth.

I don't recall if all their line had a walkable roof, but our 08 is. I've been up there and it seems fine as long as you're careful and think light thoughts.

Hi, I have a 2008 Sunnybrook Edgewater. It does have a walkable roof. My husband is up there all the time. No problems.

You might ask this question on the Sunnybrook users forum at www.myrvtalk.com. Sunnybrooks were pretty well made. I walk on my roof all the time.

It's always best to err on the side of caution. But if you can tell where the rafters are located that will also give you extra support. None of my trailers have had ladders and I've been on all the roofs, even our old Ultra Lite. I weigh 210 pounds. I always step on rafters and walk as close to the edge as I safely can.

IMO never walk on your roof unless absolutely necessary. Most work can be done from a ladder. I’ve never needed to walk on an RV roof to clean it. If you must, what does the manufacturer say...walkable?
