I bought the super high wind gizmos and they work well. You're right in that the clips are needed to keep them from sliding down. That part doesn't work too well. With very high winds, they stay on well enough but don't expect much sleep due to the flapping. I had to remove them from one bunk end during our February camping trip. I just couldn't sleep due to the wind whipping the ends of the gizmos against the fabric right above my head.
This past week, though, they were a life saver. Between the outside ones and the inside bunk end gizmos, our AC was actually able to keep up with ~100F temps here in Texas.
