If I may....
The tuners for diesels can change 3 parameters:
1) Injection timing - when the fuel is injected in relation to position of the piston
2) Injection duration - how long the injector is open
3) Injection pressure - how much pressure is in the fuel system
HYPERTECH adds 176hp and 289 lbs-ft torque (REAR WHEEL measured)-just a tune!
Adding 100hp is a mild tune for a HPCR Cummins.
The manufacturers don't make the engines put out that much power for several reasons.
1) Emissions - the engines might not meet the emissions regulations with added power (fuel injected).
2) Warranty - more power can be harder on the engine, the transmission, rear end, driveshaft, U-joints, etc.
3) Cooling ability - they have to engineer the whole power train to not overheat in Death Valley, in July, with maximum load applied. Individuals do not.
