If I may....
The tuners for diesels can change 3 parameters:
1) Injection timing - when the fuel is injected in relation to position of the piston
2) Injection duration - how long the injector is open
3) Injection pressure - how much pressure is in the fuel system
HYPERTECH adds 176hp and 289 lbs-ft torque (REAR WHEEL measured)-just a tune!
Adding 100hp is a mild tune for a HPCR Cummins.
The manufacturers don't make the engines put out that much power for several reasons.
1) Emissions - the engines might not meet the emissions regulations with added power (fuel injected).
2) Warranty - more power can be harder on the engine, the transmission, rear end, driveshaft, U-joints, etc.
3) Cooling ability - they have to engineer the whole power train to not overheat in Death Valley, in July, with maximum load applied. Individuals do not.
Thanks! Admittedly I don't know a whole lot about diesels, although I've been around gas engines for more years than I'd like to admit. I didn't realize you could increase the output by so much with a tune....it's not that possible for a gas engine. Thanks too for listing the down side. It's important to keep these in mind when considering a tune.
Also, there's always been a lot of claims (scams) regarding hp increases and fuel savings. From running you car on water to magnets around fuel lines to vortex generators. So when someone claims 100hp increase it seems pretty unrealistic.
Cheers.
