Suspension upgrades?

So after talking to a couple people who had slide ins on their 1/2 tons I finally got Timbrens for my baby. Wow what a difference for only a couple hundred bucks. She sits totally level with out the sag and when driving i never noticed any sway at all on the windy roads. :)

dd...you are right about a spring shop being more $ than SS...a lot more when I looked into it.

What problem did you have with SS's?

I had a bad experience with supersprings, but to each his own , I now have a extra leaf spring on each side and the existing ones were tensioned to match the load I am hauling. making a product that works on several makes and models usually misses something not only specific to your model truck but your individual truck. just my opinion and experience

Best way to add load capacity is Supersprings and it is worth taking 10 minutes and giving their tech people a call. Tell them what you have and what you want. Adding springs keeps the truck operating as when stock and lets the shocks do their job as well. The other band-aid approaches do the exact opposite.

The E rated tires add to the load capacity but also there is reduced side wall flexing so you get better road handling as well.

Your planned camper load is well within what your truck can handle with added help for the existing springs. An anti-sway bar can also help, both with reduced sway and with a less harsh ride as impacts at one wheel are shared with the opposite wheel.

Well I got her loaded and she sits not too bad. But there is a bit of sag in the rear. I hope she handles as good as she looks.

You did all the upgrades I would have done in your shoes. Good job.
How did you upgrade your brakes? There is not much you can do that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and doesn't involve major and wholesale replacement of the braking system. I have experience going to complete disc brakes on my CJ8 (Chevy front and Cadillac rear) and found every part of the system is connected and tuned to the rest of the system. Smaller hoses and lines for more pressure? A bigger brake booster? Larger rotors and calipers?
It would be enlightening for the TC community to hear what you did to upgrade your brakes. Braking is the often overlooked 'stop' aspect of hauling around a 10k pound white box on a pickup: as opposed to the often overrated 'go' aspect of a 10k pound camper.

I wonder how these would work? Any one have any experiences with these?

I have a 2002 1500 chev reg cab 1450lb camper I installed 2 extra leaf springs, both sides, camper and truck sit really nice works fine for me, also put shocks on it but it needed them, 50,000 miles never been done, truck has 53,000 now, also have "E" rated tires, upgraded brakes. The springs cost about $400 installed up here in Canada where the prices are always higher

Take a good look at Supersprings or Roadmaster Active Suspension System. Either of which do very well with suspensions that need a little help. Good Luck with the camper.
