Did anyone say if it was a half or 3/4 ton Avalache? For awhile you could get a 3/4 ton avalanche with a 8.1L that would really tow. My 2500 Burb with the 8.1L tows great and handles the 32' box behind it nicely. When you have a lot of kids, what other option do you have? You want me to use a 1 ton 5th wheel to tow and a suburban to take the kids? No thanks. Now 30' on a 1/2 ton, different story!
I have a 30 footer that could be towed behind my SUV, a 1/2 ton far exceeds the needs of my trailer but I like the comfort of the longer wheelbase.
Length isn't the factor that is important.... Total Weight, tongue weight, and TV wheel base are far more important then length of trailer.
OK, I agree my comment was rather open ended. By 1/2 ton I was thinking of the burb or avalanche this thread was based on. I know my 99 burb is only rated for 6,000 lbs, but easily tows more than that. I also was thinking of most 30' trailers that weigh a lot. Mine is dry at 8,300 lbs I think. Add stuff and a 1/2 ton avalanche or burb is over loaded.
So I was off base on how general I posted it without adding all the thoughts running through my mind, like I do not have the newest burbs. Heck, the newer F-150's are rated to tow more than my 2004 2500 burb. I also have no idea on what the tow rating is of a newer avalanche, you just don't check stuff out like that when you have a lot of kids!
