Last year we did Perth to Darwin in a Drive Beyond rental. It uwas a diesel Nissan Navara (Frontier)with a roof top tent. Over the Gibb River road. Even camping and driving off-road in Northern Territory.
Most of US is pretty tame, even out west, with smooth freeways, they simply don't need ea tough trailer with independent suspension. Not all "off-road" trailers in Oz are, either. Aussies don't have heavy tow vehicles, see that SUV. So they are limited to 20' class. I was always amazed at the size of the caravans they tow.
We used to make F150's up to 1992. F250 /F350's Then diesel versions of the same from 2000-2006. Reasonable prices but never sold
Nissan Navara
has nothing to with your current Frontier. It has a small 2.3 Renault Diesel and 8000lb towing.Depending on configuration a 2,700lb payload.
All of the SUV's have Diesels
