I think the American RV industry did a lot to come up with original concepts, and putting them into (somewhat) large(r) scale production decades ago. But they are very, very conservative - once something works, it is not changed or challenged for decades (look at water heaters and furnaces for example). This has its good sides since there is a lot of no-nonsense equipment out there that can be repaired with a screwdriver and common sense. But it is a huge disadvantage in a moving market.
