I run synthetics for peace of mind.
Really cold weather? Synthetic is better in the cold.
Driving 500 miles in the middle of summer? Synthetics handle heat better.
Longer vacation than planned? Synthetics handle longer change intervals better.
As previously said, conventional oils, when changed at the proper intervals, work just fine. Synthetics are just better. I'm willing to pay extra for that.
BTW, I use Royal Purple. Some Walmarts carry it - $8.49 a quart. As hard as I work my truck, I'm willing to pay the extra cost.
Conventional oil was used by those in Alaska for years before synthetics came along. Conventional oil performs fine in the summer in extreme heat. YOUR MOTOR WILL NOT LAST LONGER USING CONVENTIONAL OIL VS. SYNTHETICS. 99.5% of synthetic users never use their oil to it's maximum OCI.
