synthetic oil or not
The Honda 2000 generator says to use sae 10-30w but doesnt specify if it needs to be synthetic or not. Does anyone use high quality oil or is it overkill?

Yep zinc/phospherous levels have been cut way back in oils over the last 5-6 years due to auto manufacturers complaining it was killing them on warranty repairs for catalytic converters. That and the demise of the flat tappet engine, I believe every modern automotive engine is now a roller tappet so the high levels of zinc/phos. are not needed.
