synthetic oil or not

The Honda 2000 generator says to use sae 10-30w but doesnt specify if it needs to be synthetic or not. Does anyone use high quality oil or is it overkill?

  • My 24HP Honda V-Twin engine on my zero turn mower gets Royal Purple synthetic once a year.

That reminds me last week I saw Non Detergent oil for the first time in a long time at Save A Lot in our town. Forget the price but they had Dino Peak for $3.50 a quart and Quakerstate synthetic for only $4 a quart. I take it what they have is a wild card but $4 for name brand synthetic motor oil is not a bad price.

  • I just changed my Honda's over to Amsoil SAE 10w30-30 Small Engine oil and they turn over much easier in the colder weather.
  • Due to the oil being upto 100F degrees hotter in air cooled engines I lean synthetic for all. Right now I am with 5W-40 Rotella Synthetic for most every thing that we change the oil in ourselves.
  • It uses so little that I use what's left over from an oil change on the car. Usually synthetic.
