Switching to full synthetics is sometimes not recommended for a high mileage engine that's been using conventional oils to that point. It could make a high mileage engine with seals close to leaking start leaking at that point.
But an engine that's been using a synthetic is fine to continue no matter how high the mileage gets. A buddy of mine has 275,000 miles on a '99 Tundra that's been running Amsoil for years. Oil change intervals have been annual or as high as 20,000 miles. The truck doesn't use enough oil to add between changes.
As far as break in, as others have said, many new cars come with synthetic from the factory.
