I think if one is going to follow the recently extended drain intervals, which on my rig is 10K miles, with some of WOT through the desert towing, or in the winter with -30 starts, it provides some peace of mind. For the average joe who doesn't work the heck out of their rig, synthetic is likely a waste. At the same time, Mobil 1 only costs $22 a jug at Wallyworld, so I don't think that is too extravagant?
5 Gallons of Walmart's house brand Super Tech synthetic is $17.47.
I understand the manufacturer is regionally based. The West Coast would get it from one refinery while the East Coast would be different. The specs should be the same.
