Synthetic Oils

Just had a question for you folks. When is it ok to change out the old dino oil and replace it with synthetic? I just changed our oil at about 10,000 miles, second change, and wonder if I should look at putting synthetic in when I change out at around 15,000 miles. Ran synthetic in my old GMC D/A combo from about 15,000 miles or so until trading it at 103,000+-.

  • It might not give more life but it can be done when you are ready. I lean to synthetic but have not read proof or even near proof it was functionally better in the real world in real time. Some say even new dino has a lot of synthetic in it to pass newer specs. I know there is not a huge price difference in cost per mile today and one reason I lean towards synthetic just in case it helps. :)
  • When our D/A was new, I dropped the original oil at 5K and went full synthetic. Don't know if it is 'better' than dino oil for my truck, but it makes ME feel better.
