Actually the step in front of the license plate is just as effective as the corner steps.
No it isn't. Haul something that extends past the tailgate and the step in front of the license plate is useless. Have had scaffolding planks in the bed that extend 2' past the end of the tailgate. No way to use the center step to get into the bed. Corner steps still work. That's just one example, there are others.
