Well I've got an old 2002 Dodge.
I had back problems a few years ago and my wife saw me struggling to get into the truck bed. So she bought me this. It is decidedly low-tech. I'll bet it is a lot cheaper ($40 on Amazon) and probably works better than those complicated OEM ones. And when I don't want it on the tailgate, I pull two pins and the whole thing comes off.
