Take camper to La Grande OR for repairs, travel info needed

We have an appt to take our Arctic Fox in for repairs on November 28 (earliest we could get, appt made back in June). We will be traveling from San Antonio TX and would like travel info on the best route to take during this time of year.

  • On a separate note, what kind of repairs warrant driving thousands of miles to have them done? Does AF not honor warranty anywhere but back at the mothership?
Bad structural stuff that only they can do?
  • Regarding chains or socks, if you can't get through with a 4x4 with 2 tons in the bed, then the road will be closed, your tires are bald or you shouldn't be driving on it.
I'd take the quickest route and then only divert if I had to. No sense in trying to predict a snow storm 2 months from now.
The fact that you're worried about it tells me you should divert or wait out any bad roads.

. . .I might take I-10 to Phoenix.....Hwy 93 N to Las Vegas.....Hwy 95 north thru NV and all the way to I-84 in western ID.....then north to La Grande.

This route minimizes your time in snow country.
    Longer yes......less snow yes.

X2 - This would be my first choice. The real snow danger comes in December / January but may come earlier. Watch the weather and pay attention to the passes. If the news weather reports get hyper-excited then plan on delay.
You might want to look into getting a snow sock in lieu of chains. The sock is much lighter and stores easier than chains. See YouTube for Snow Sock.
  • Sango,
How disappointing to wait 6 MONTHS for a service appointment.
I say shame on Arctic Fox.
  • It just depends on how the weather is at that particular day(s). I'd plan out a few routes, and decide based on the weather forecast. Do get some chains and don't underestimate how bad it can be.
  • Stay on I10 west of Phoenix to 303 to 60/93.

The best route depends upon the weather when you leave so have alternatives and extra time.
  • Late November is snow time out West.
Google maps route takes you thru snow country in NW NM, SW CO, UT.
