Taking Delivery

So I'm taking delivery of a 1172 next week. I have a 08 Silverado Dually, and we're going to have to beef up the springs (already did the tires) to take the weight.

They quoted me 10 hours of labor to install the torklift tie downs, and the lance bed plug. That sounds absurd to me, as I've seen the video on how to do it - and it takes 10 minutes per tie down.

Does anyone have any experience with this? I was going to do the Tie-downs myself and just let them install the bed plug. Although - I do think I could probably do that myself, if I had a plug available.

  • 10 Hours!! :E Mine took longer to read and understand the directions than the actual install. The drivers side front was the toughest due to the gas tank behind the frame. I can't believe they quoted you ten hours with a straight face!
  • I have installed torklift tie-downs on two Ford trucks.

10 hours is way too much for labor - sounds like this shop has never done them before?

The plug and wires are easy to find at most automotive stores.

Is the connector like 7 - Way Connector shown here:

  • Curious if you are buying the camper new or used? The dealer I just purchased my new camper from did the tork-lift tie-downs, super hitch/truss and wiring install at no extra charge. Purchasing used may be different though. I installed the tork-lift tie-downs and super hitch on the previous truck I owned, it took the good part of an afternoon but it wasn't that hard.

If they're willing to charge that much I wonder where else they are willing/trying to rip you off? Take a good look at the deal before you sign on the bottom line.

For the camper plug I have always just ran an extension from the 7-pin bumper plug. I don't use that plug-in for anything because I don't tow a heavy trailer and if I did I would just get a splitter adapter and still do it from there rather than trying to splice into the trucks wiring and drill holes in my bed.

    It was on a 2015 Chevy 2500.

I had my plug installed at a trailer shop. It took them about one hour.

Thanks. I have fairly good wrenching ability! Hopefully it'll take me less.
