No it is not an easy job. But it can be done at home, by a backyard mechanic. It takes patience.
The evening before with a cold engine, spray a liberal amount of GOOD penetrating oil on each plug and then repeat before you attempt to remove plugs. I have found that the best way is to try to actually tighten a bit and then try to remove the plugs. In my business, we are running seven 5.4 engines, and have never pulled threads removing them. I strongly suggest that you apply Never Seize when the new plugs are installed. There is one rear plug that would bring bad language out of Pope, but it can be done. You just have to install a universal joint in your wrist. This design was not one of Fords better ideas.
