The 2004 through mid 2008 ford 3 valve 5.4 engine is the one we're talking about. They have a unique spark plug design that has an extended tip. This is the part that breaks off and gets stuck in the engine. This is not about the plugs sticking in the threads or the threads pulling out of the head. That was mostly on the older models. To remove these you must first loosen the plug slightly then inject some penetrating lube in to try and soak some of the carbon off the tip to get it to come out of the head. In the event the tip breaks off and stays in the head there are special tools to try and extract it. Worst case scenerio you have to pull the head to get it out. Ford redesigned the heads in mid 2008 to use a different style plug and eliminate this nightmare.
