Tankless Hot Water Heaters?

Outdoors RV is taking my Girard out and putting in a 6 gal. gas/electric. Is makes a banging noise and is so hot we can't use it. I thought is was a great idea, but like everyone else says, don't do it.

Judging by the posts in this Forum, they sound like a good idea in theory but not in practice for an RV. The venerable 6 gal gas/electric WH is all I've ever known, and have to say for two people, it does a great job with no complexity and never a hot water shortage. And just as energy efficient as a tankless might be for me cuz I switch it off as soon as we're finished with hot water use. :B

I have a Girard tankless in my camper.. Used it for a couple of years now.. don't hate it.. but almost. I have learned to use it, but it's a pain in the a$$. Too hot or too cold. I have read all the directions.. called Girard and tried all their suggestions. It still sucks. You shouldn't have to jump through so many hoops.. just to take a nice shower.

As mentioned.. I have learned to use it well enough to take showers. I mostly always camp by myself, so no big deal. But I would never let a child take a shower in my camper... they would probably scald themselves.

Been thinking about replacing it with a regular gas/electric tanked water heater.. but since its only me.. I'll probably just save my money and live with it.

My opinion: If you have the choice upfront.. stay away from a tankless water heater.

I have a Lance 1575 with the first generation of Girard tankless . Got issue at the beginning to adjust because you never touch the cold water to adjust temperature, you play with the flow of the hot water. If you do a lot of dry camping, not a good choice as you cannot stop water to save water . If you do camping with service go with it.

For a tankless water heater, they only heat when water is flowing through them.
So when the faucet is turned off, the burner on the water Hester will shut down.

They are only propane as far as I know. If you plan to do much camping without hookups, they can use water as the unit only heats when water is moving through it. They are also difficult to regulate temperature. Our is always too hot. The instructions say you are to only open the hot side of the shower or sink and the faster the water flows, the cooler it is. We have found that to be difficult to measure.
