Tarp to cover camper

I was wondering if anyone is using a tarp to cover their camper. I am sick of buying covers that only last a year and don't want to spent five hundred dollars for a good cover
Thanks
Jeff

  • I've tried every 'tarp' style over the years: blue, silver, camo, green, and brown cheap and not-so-cheap plastic tarps. None of them lasted more than 2 seasons. Of course, Sierra Cement and lots of it does not help the situation.
Then I bought a treated, heavy cotton duck trucker's tarpolin, and as they say, I got what I paid for. I've gotten many seasons out of it. The woe is that it is heavy and takes 2 people to install in the fall.
Last fall we built a dedicated TC/tractor barn, so the tarp situation is moot. This end (facing south) is now closed up during the winter months:

  • I am going on 2 years with my ADCO cover, I make sure all the sharp edges are coverd with a piece of cut up swim noodle. Also make sure it is tight as possible to prevent flapping as it will cause it to fail too.
  • Sunshield tarps last for several seasons. Buy one to cover the roof and hangs over the sides a little. No need to cover the sides completely.

I buy a big silver tarp from Harbor Freight every other year. It's around 20' x 30' and I think I spend about $40.

+1 on the heavy weight silver tarp from HF! I've gotten 3 winters out of mine. I duct-taped some small rags on the rear upper corners of my trailer to reduce to 'sharp edge' after the first winter I noticed it wearing thin in those two spots. I will use this one one more winter before I get a new one.
  • I use a heavy rubberized trucker tarp. One camper is going on 6 years the other camper has been used for 3.
