Update: Thousands of miles later, step addition is still working well. I noticed that after time, the folding mechanism loosened up a bit and the left hand side (unpinned) started to sag an inch or so. While not a real issue, I made up another cable lanyard and 3/16" pin for that side to keep it fully retracted. Another benefit is that the step when pinned in the down position on both sides is even more solid when using it.
If someone does this mod, measure the distance from the lanyard attachment point to the ground for the 3/16" pins to keep them out of the dirt when hanging loose. Mine ended up at 12", end to end, when hung from the drop down bracket. One other note, if your pins end up too close to a pivot bolt, it may interfere with the .020 stainless washers provided by Torklift with the Add-A-Step. I solved this by replacing with smaller OD washers to clear the pinned holes.
