- My AF has them on both sides.
The dealer taught me to use the "sub wings" to help the loading procedure and it does help a lot. Basically, look over your left shoulder as you back in at the sub wing compared to the bed rail. The gap should form a straight line and then you know you are lined up straight. Works for me. - My Lance 1055 has them on both sides. I thought I was finally getting away with such a tight fitting camper when I sold my Weekender...but the lance has only around 3/4" room on each side from the tailgate opening. It was a little more difficult to load because the tailgate opening is so far back, completely blind on the passenger side, and not "big and bulky" like the fender wells in the truck are. Fortunately, I don't take the camper off the truck (so far) so it's not a problem, but on an uneven surface I would anticipate more problems. I might also add that I don't mind the wings as they add so much more storage to the camper on the inside..
Dak - My host has sub wings on both sides, and I take out the Torx pins that latch the tailgate to give me another 1/4 inch of room.

Not a concern. - My Arctic Fox has these "sub-wings" on both sides. You keep it close to the edge on the driver side and passenger side is just fine. You could crank the TC higher so these appendages are above the tailgate opening, but then you do not have a good guide of where to back up the truck.
BTW: That's another reason to get your bed coated with a liner. You would not get this scrape if Line-X or Rhino Liner was sprayed on. - It is interesting to see some of the inconsequential things that cause so much concern on this forum.

- i don't mind a sub wing, mine has a small piece in the back used for the bath area. Its "bumped" the truck a couple of times, just have to reposition, yes its a PIA but just have to live with it.
