TC Storage Cart

Bought this heavy duty cart yesterday for $100 from a family member. He told me that he picked it up from a factory that used them in their assembly line to haul diesel engines. This thing is well made, has quadrasteering, solid tires, and should make a very good storage cart for my NL this winter. I already bought a horse stall mat from Tractor Supply that will be placed on top of the exiting expanded metal.

  • Ah. I think I see now. I'd still be careful to spread the load around the entire bottom of the TC so it's not just pushing on a small area of the floor.
  • I did a very similar thing with two HD garden carts of 1000 lb capacity each. Worked great for my 1600 lb TC. And I kept the legs about an inch off the ground just in case it tipped. The whole thing was very stable.

    This is exactly what I do. I made my own dolly out of angle iron and some heavy-duty casters (rated 1250lbs. each). I can roll it into the garage with one hand. Once it's in, I put the jacks down so it can't roll.

    BTW, my dolly has a sheet of 3/4" plywood on it that supports the entire bottom of the camper.
  • The engine my weigh more than the camper but all that weight is much lower and centered on the cart. A truck camper will have a very high center of gravity and a lot of weight wider on the cart. I think I would at least lock the rear wheels so they don't steer to sharp of a turn and I think it will tip. I have moved a lot of machinery on heavy duty carts and have seen top heavy equipment tip over even though the cart could support twice the weight.

The cart was used to move a 2600# engine, plus all of the lifting devices and pallets, so I can't imagine the TC overloading it since its dry weight is less than that.

    Regardless, and before I actually load it, I will look for a manufacturers stamp to determine what it's load capacity is.
  • I'd abandon that idea. I can see the TC laying on the floor, on it's side, first time you try turning with it. How do yo plan on towing/pushing it?
  • Big surprise ... first, I'd look to see what the tire capacity is. Possible but very unlikely they support 1000 lbs each.
